What To Do

A drive down Monument Avenue is a good place to start. This street, which has a mile-long stretch of cobblestone, is lined with beautiful row houses and commemorative statues. Richmonder Arthur Ashe’s will be one of the first you’ll pass; Robert E. Lee’s, one of the last.

My favorite view of Richmond is from Libby Hill Park at 29th Street at Libby Terrace in historic Church Hill. From there you can walk to St. John’s Church (2401 East Broad St., 804/648-5015), where Patrick Henry delivered his “Give me liberty” speech in 1775.
