Terrace at 29 Spa
The spa: The light-filled 29 Spa by Lydia Mondavi has everything a woman could ask for and more: a chaise-lined terrace fit for a girl’s day out, a glassed-in jewel box of a manicure and pedicure sanctuary, and a glass of wine to precede treatments with names such as Sommelier’s Selection or Savor the Wine. Mondavi, an Atlanta native and wife of wine heir Robert Mondavi Jr., developed 29 Spa (named after the main highway in Napa Valley) and a line of age-protecting cosmetics and skin care products using grape seeds. As I lie facedown receiving the Perfect Pairing massage (one of Mondavi’s favorite treatments), I ask my attendant if she’s ever met Mondavi. She laughs a but-of-course kind of laugh and tells me that I just missed her. A final tip: Sip the wine, but savor the iced tea -- it’s infused with antioxidants that will augment your spa treatment.
Posh particulars: Forgetful packers and recreational shoppers will be happy to know that a personal shopper from Neiman Marcus is on speed dial and just a short drive across the street to Lenox Square. I also love the hotel’s subtle charm and attention to detail. For instance, you’ll never see a housekeeping cart blocking the hallway or a bellman’s cart in the main lobby. In fact, my bags seemed to magically appear in time with my car’s arrival out front.
Only at The Mansion on Peachtree: Underneath its gracious façade, The Mansion on Peachtree is outfitted with all things modern. The hotel is the only one in the country to offer VisionArt technology in each of its rooms. Getting lost in a framed painting only to see it roll back and reveal a flat-panel television all but converted this technology-challenged traveler to a devotee.
