What’s making news: The Mansion on Peachtree, A Rosewood Hotel & Residence, opened last May as an approachable, polished property that takes after its big sisters to the west (Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Rosewood Crescent Court, both in Dallas) and to the north (The Carlyle in New York).
The atmosphere: The 42-story hotel has style oozing from its marble floors and art-covered walls. Instead of a single doorman to greet you, there are two. Rather than kicking up your feet, you’ll be more comfortable crossing your legs on the plush sofas. And you won’t find a palette of jarring colors to excite your senses, but cool tones to relax them.
The bar: Although Peachtree Road isn’t lacking for swank bars and lounges, only The Mansion on Peachtree boasts a mixologist. When I sidle up to the bar unsure of what to order, mixologist Stephanie Ruhe recommends the Lady Violet. This Southern belle sips and nearly swoons with delight over the mix of vodka, light rum, vermouth, and gin.
The accommodations: Each of the 127 rooms feels like a private residence -- not unlike the 45 luxury residences at the property -- right down to the doorbell, digital “privacy” and “make up room” indicators, and 24-hour butler service. After finding that my clothing has been hung and my luggage stowed, I turn up tunes on the Bose radio and slide into a plush velvet chair to peruse the room service menu before drawing a bath in front of the television in the large marble bathroom. Reserve a suite with a balcony for sunny views high above bustling Buckhead.
The food: When it comes to dining, I’m of the mind that one should venture beyond the hotel for maximum cultural immersion. But my theory has a fortunate loophole -- the hottest lunch table in the area is the hotel’s Italian-inspired restaurant, Neo. A seat facing the English garden is the perfect complement to chef Eric Chopin’s white truffle oil risotto or stacked panini. This fall Tom Colicchio, of Top Chef fame, will open the property’s second restaurant, Craft Atlanta. Fronting Peachtree Road but separated from the main tower, it will offer Colicchio’s signature seasonal American dishes.
