Situated in the 2-story penthouse of a 10-story building in Atlanta, this light-filled, contemporary bath was designed by architect Jim Winer “to feel like it is elevated above the clouds.” It’s lined with reflective translucent white surfaces, along with windows and glass doors that bring in the sky. With the flip of a switch, the glass surrounding the tub and shower becomes frosted for privacy. The windows are fitted with roll-down mesh shades set inside pockets in the wall and controlled electronically. Winer covered the walls and counters with translucent resin with white backing; the walls are inset with panels of mosaic mother-of-pearl, which echoes the pearlescent flecks in the terrazzo floors. “The walls have great visual depth and a wonderful, serene quality of light,” says Winer. A full wall of custom-built anegre wood cabinetry lies opposite the shower and bath. “I love that there is enough storage, so everything personal can be hidden,” says judge Linda Pittam.
