Simply Pink

Southern Accents: Your new book is so cheerful and pretty. What inspired you to do a book on all pink flowers?

Paula Pryke: I have always loved pink, and it has been on my wish list to do for some years.

What’s the signature Paula Pryke look?

Modern yet classical. Designer Terence Conran once described my look as “grand but simple at the same time,” and I think that is what I strive for. I like the flowers to look natural, and the simpler the design, the better.

What trends are you seeing in the flower trade?Do you subscribe to these trends?

We have been in a very romantic, classical phase, and I suspect that the recession will make us cling to nostalgic themes for a while. The shock of the new idea will return with consumer confidence and when we feel more secure again―financially, politically, and morally.
