Poppy Seed Cheese Straws
Yield: 28 appetizers

  • 1 package frozen puff pastry sheets (2 sheets)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. Thaw pastry at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  3. Whisk together egg and 1 tablespoon water. Unfold pastry on a lightly floured surface. Roll each sheet into 14-by-l0-inch rectangles. Brush both sheets with egg mixture.
  4. Combine cheese and poppy seeds in a small bowl. Top 1 rectangle with cheese mixture. Place remaining rectangle over cheese-topped rectangle, egg-side down. Roll gently with a rolling pin to seal. Cut crosswise into 28 (1⁄2-inch) strips. Twist strips and place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet, pressing ends down. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes or until golden. Serve warm or at room temperature.
