Designer Barry Dixon worked with kitchen designer Mick De Giulio to ensure that all the modern conveniences were included.
Refrigerated drawers, a pot-filler faucet, and vegetable crispers near the sink are a few of the luxurious accoutrements.

"This kitchen is open to the house from so many perspectives that it needed to blend with the design of the rest of the house," says designer Barry Dixon. Beams from a Minnesota barn, a rough plaster ceiling, and orange and green fabrics connect the kitchen stylistically to the adjoining dining room, family room, and hall.
Vermont soapstone countertops rest on cabinets dressed in various finishes. "In a big kitchen," says Dixon, "when everything is the same, it seems a little cold to me." A sunny tile backsplash behind the stove is composed of a "crazy quilt" of tiles. At one end of the island, a butcher block introduces another material.
"Things are artfully spread around the kitchen," says the designer. "I've been in that room when the family is all gathered and cooking, and it really works."
