What historical period inspires you most?
Right now, Arts & Crafts is a very influential period in my life. I am also influenced by Scandinavian architecture, mainly
from the early part of the 19th century to the end of the century.
Is there a particular color or color palette that you are drawn to?
I am very much involved in looking at fashion―how fashion has progressed and developed through the years. A dark chocolate
brown is very much in my head right now. A particular hue of blue mixed with the brown excites me, and I feel that it could
be a wonderful background for walls and curtains.
What is your perspective on using rugs in your designs?
Do you prefer new or old, sea grass or patterned? I love sea grass; I love the feeling, the smell of it, what it does for
a room. Turkish rugs can be quite beautiful in any room. Right now I’m doing a collaboration with Stark Carpet. They do not
want these rugs to be wall to wall, they want it to be like a centerpiece. And that can be quite emotional.
What are some design trends that you consider timeless?
The use of metal in a creative way has been in for a very long time. Chrome and steel are coming back after many years of
being used and reused. In the ’70s and ’80s, you saw a lot of combinations of woods and metals. Metal is coming back because
it’s a beautiful material. It’s a pure material that you can mold and fold and do all kinds of things with.
