Chatting with designer Juan Montoya is like casually sitting down to coffee with an old friend―there are no pretensions, only a willingness to share. Originally from Colombia, he studied architecture in Bogotá and graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York, where he still resides and operates his design firm.

Juan Montoya: The culture of your country always becomes a part of your self. It brings some kind of element. It could be through plants, it could be through the use of pre-Colombian pieces. But I never do it consistently. In other words, not every project is the same.
