CLASSICIST
With one eye on tradition and another on modern design, the classicist wants understated drama. The lines of the furniture,
the grain of the wood, and the texture of the fabrics all stand out. You might see a sleigh bed or an upholstered headboard,
maybe even an antique or reproduction four-poster bed, minus the voluminous fabrics overhead. A pleated or ruffled bed skirt
is too much fabric, but a more tailored skirt might be appropriate. Pillows are generous European squares cased in the finest
linens, and an antique quilt or matelassé coverlet would be the ultimate bed dressing. Colors are vintage or historically
inspired. As for fabrics, they are fairly quiet: tone-on-tone prints, subtle stripes, and toile de Jouy. And you'll see fewer
layers than you would in a romantic bedroom.
