ROMANTIC
In a romantic bedroom, one can't help but feel slightly royal while falling asleep at night. The bed starts with a canopy and is draped and skirted in yards of fabric, often with plenty of pillows. The frame may be an antique or a faithful reproduction. Flowers usually appear all over -- on fabrics, in vases, maybe even in art. Colors need not be pastel -- I've seen several red bedrooms in the past few years. As in all fine bedrooms, there is great attention to fabric detail: lots of ruffles and ruching (textiles that are intricately folded into minipleats and stitched down). A duvet may perch at the foot of the bed for cool winter nights and well-air-conditioned summer evenings. And of course, the room is full of antiques to evoke a time when luxury meant abundance and the ultimate in indulgence.
