| Virginia-based landscape designer Phillip Watson is a master of pattern, often using it as a garden's centerpiece. The basic elements of a pattern garden are the outline hedge and
the plantings that go within and around the hedge. For the pattern gardens he designs for clients, Watson is partial to Green Beauty boxwood (Buxus microphylla), which grows well in zones 7 and 8.
