"Château Marmont is my favorite. The bungalows are private and you can just stay at the hotel for the evening. But for my New York friends, it's a relaxed spot to have a martini before a night out on the town." 8221 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA, 323/656-1010, www.chateaumarmont.com.

"The food at Café Delfini is always perfection on a plate. I get so excited thinking about the fish of the day." 147 West Channel Rd., Santa Monica, CA, 310/459-8823.

Of course, she can be spotted at the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena. "I search high and low for original paintings." 1001 Rose Bowl Dr., Pasadena, CA, 323/560-7469.

"The Open Door is filled with reasonably priced antiques." 57 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA, 323/653-5296.

"For the original modern twist, I shop at Downtown. The owners have a wonderful eye for 20th-century design." 719 North La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 310/652-7461.

"If you are a fabric lover, I recommend Michael Levine. If you need linens, they have a rainbow selection." 920 South Maple Ave., Los Angeles, CA, 213/239-0909, www.mlfabrics.com.

Sommers does confess to a little indulgence. "I must admit I do buy my shoes from Barneys." 9570 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 310/276-4400, www.barneys.com.

"Madison et Cie is where I always find the perfect dress for a nice party." 106 South Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 310/275-1930.

"On a summer night, the Hollywood Bowl is the perfect place to take a picnic and hear live music." 2301 North Highland Ave., Hollywood, CA, 323/850-2000, www.hollywoodbowl.org.

She sometimes spends the day at the J. Paul Getty Museum. "I've gone there to draw, and it feels like I'm on a school field trip somewhere far away from Los Angeles." 1200 Getty Center Dr., Los Angeles, CA, 310/440-7330, www.getty.edu.

"I think the Farmers Market provides the best slice of real Angeleno living. This open-air market with every type of food and cuisine has a cast of characters more interesting to me than celebrities." 6333 West Third St., Los Angeles, CA, 323/933-9211, www.farmersmarketla.com.

"The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens has exquisite rose gardens." 1151 Oxford Rd., San Marino, CA, 626/405-2100, www.huntington.org.

"Above all the Hollywood hoopla and big city fun, my favorite thing to do is order a bacon-avocado burger from Joe's Main Street Diner and sit in my old wicker rocker playing Scrabble and watching the sun set on the Pacific. It's not the South, but it's close." 2917 Main St., Santa Monica, CA, 310/392-5804.

"The Little Door is also a nice dinner spot that feels hip, and it's great if your parents are in town." 8164 West Third St., Los Angeles, CA, 323/951-1210.

"I would never let anyone miss the Los Angeles Flower Market. It offers warehouse after warehouse filled with every kind of flower imaginable. Get there before 8 a.m." 753 South Wall St., Los Angeles, CA, 213/627-3473.

"Fred Segal has awesome smoothies." Mauro's Cafe, 8112 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046, 323/653-7970.

"Take a walk around the Hancock Park neighborhood. It feels so provincial, like an old neighborhood in the South. The variety of architecture is vast. Throw a French-influenced château next to a Tudor and you have Hancock Park. Jasmine, climbing roses, palm trees, gardenias, sycamore trees are everywhere."
