Fauteuil (pronounced foe toy) is the French term for an armchair with open sides. The back and seat of the chair are upholstered and the frame is most often made of wood. There are also specific types of fauteuils. For example, a fauteuil en cabriolet has a curved back and a fauteuil de bureau has a seat shaped for a desk.
