Porcelain
You might find: some chips and abrasions on very old pieces. The delicacy of this material is one of its finest attributes.

Steer clear of: finials, handles, or other parts that have broken off or been replaced. Joints are especially at risk. Hold porcelain up to a strong light to illuminate any repairs.
